How can I ensure that my sanded floor is completely free of dust?

Avoid water at all costs! Uneven distribution of water is very likely to cause the pores in the wood to open in different places. This means that streaks will appear in the finish coat if the floor has been wiped with a floor cloth.

After sanding, remove all dust from the floor using a vacuum cleaner fitted with a brush attachment.

When can I put my furniture back?

Depending on the product used, you will be able to walk on the floor, wearing soft-soled shoes, after 8 - 12 hours. However, after being applied, the product will only be fully hard after 7 - 10 days. During this period, it is, however, possible to put furniture back into place, provided it is not dragged across the floor, which will still be vulnerable to grime and moisture.

You are strongly advised to avoid covering the floor while the product is hardening!

How long does it take for the floor to become waterproof?

An oiled or waxed floor will always be more or less sensitive to moisture, if water is left on its surface for longer periods.

A sealed parquet floor is more water-resistant after the product hardens!

DevoNatural Passage scores the most highly when it comes to watertightness!

Regular and thorough cleaning, according to the instructions for maintenance, will increase watertightness.

As a general rule, you should wait 2 – 3 weeks before cleaning a sealed parquet floor with water. At the same time, all contact with moisture must be avoided. You should also take care when using water and maintenance products to clean windows, etc.

How many coats of DevoNatural High Solid Oil do I need to apply?

DevoNatural High Solid Oil is single coat oil for parquet floors.

In fact, because of its high content of solid substances and unique molecular structure, it only takes a single coat to protect your floor.

It is not worth applying a second coat, as the wood will reject any further product that you may apply after it has been impregnated!

This means that your parquet floor will soon have the desired finish, without having to use a large quantity of oil!

How many coats of varnish do I need to apply?

All DevoNatural varnishes should be applied in two or three coats.

Two coats of DevoNatural varnish are sufficient on surfaces that are exposed to less wear and tear (doors, cupboards or other vertical applications).

When applied to floors: DevoNatural Finish and DevoNatural Transit, three coats. DevoNatural Passage, 2- 3 coats, depending on the desired wear resistance.

Staircases: three coats of DevoNatural Transit or DevoNatural Passage.

It is also possible to combine two DevoNatural varnishes by applying three coats! For example: two coats of DevoNatural Finish Matt White + one coat of DevoNatural Passage Ultramatt.

Should I use a brush or roller?

Always read the label, which will tell you the recommended application method.

Sometimes, several methods are possible – choose the one that is best for you. In order to apply the product evenly, it is best to use a brush. Some products cannot be applied using a brush, while others need to be applied with a cloth.

If in doubt, do not hesitate to seek advice from your local DevoNatural dealer.

What should I do if the product is past its sell-by date?

A label showing the product reference number and date of manufacture can be found on every tin of DevoNatural. A sell-by date is also shown. In most cases, the product can be kept for 1- 2 years.

But this does not mean that the product can no longer be used after its sell-by date! In fact, our products do not contain any preservatives. As a result, many of our products can still be used well after their sell-by date, especially if they are adequately protected against frost!

Tip: If the product has an even consistency, without any lumps, it can still be applied. Always conduct a test on a small surface.

There are fragments of solidified varnish in the tin. What should I do?

If the tin has already been opened, pieces of solidified varnish may appear in the product after a while. This is especially common with acrylate-based varnishes.

No problem! When it comes into contact with the air inside the tin, the exposed surface of the product hardens. If the tin is shaken before use, the solid film in the tin combines with the product, so that fragments may appear.

Before use, you can remove any fragments by filtering the product using a sieve or an old gauze sanding disc/pad. After being filtered using this method, the product is perfectly useable.
